Cincinnati Bengals Release QB Andy Dalton After Nine Seasons

The Cincinnati Bengals announced they have released veteran quarterback Andy Dalton after nine years with the team.  The move was expected with Dalton entering the final year of his contract, as well as the Bengals drafting LSU quarterback Joe Burrow as their No. 1 overall pick in this year’s draft.

After being drafted in the second round of the 2011 draft, Dalton led the Bengals to the playoffs in his first five seasons in Cincinnati. “Andy will always be considered a key member of the Bengals’ organization,” said Bengals head coach Zac Taylor. “His teammates and coaches appreciate his leadership and his commitment to winning. Just as importantly, Andy and his wife JJ are leaving a lasting impact in the community with the incredible work their foundation has done over the years. Andy and his family have meant a lot to this team and this city, and we wish them the best in the future.”

“Andy will always hold a special place with this franchise, and I know that he holds a special place in my heart,” said team president Mike Brown. “This is a hard day for our club because we know and appreciate what a consummate professional Andy has always been. We respect and appreciate Andy, and we thank him.”

Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood will perform on the Grand Ole Opry on May 2.  The couple will take the stage for the 4,922nd consecutive Saturday night show, which will be broadcast live on Circle Television, as well as streamed on Circle’s Facebook and YouTube.

The longtime Opry members announced the news via Garth’s Inside Studio G series on Facebook Live: “During this time, they’ve been just having guys show up and do their thing,” says Garth. “So, me and Miss Yearwood—we’re going to be doing the Opry. And Miss Yearwood says, ‘What are you going to do?’ And I said, ‘What, are you kidding me? I’m going to do some of the greatest country music on the planet for me.’ So, I’m sure there’s probably going to be some [George] Jones, there’s going to be some Randy Travis, some [George] Strait, [Merle] Haggard. And then you know The Queen, she’s going to sing some of the greatest stuff ever and it could all be her stuff, too. This is going to be a fun Saturday night right here.”

The Opry has aired every Saturday for more than 90 years, but for the past seven weeks during the COVID-19 pandemic, the broadcast has aired without an audience. Opry fans are invited to contribute to the Opry’s #UNBROKEN charitable campaign, which raises money for the MusiCares COVID-19 Relief Fund to benefit artists and musicians struggling through the pandemic.

Metallica’s Lars Ulrich Says Band May Make New Album While In Quarantine

Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich has revealed that the band have been discussing the possibility of recording a new album while in quarantine during the global pandemic.

“We’ve been sitting around in the last four to six weeks and having numerous conversations,” Ulrich told Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff during a livestream session on Tuesday. “The four members of Metallica connect via Zoom once a week, and it’s great to connect. All four of us are, obviously, in four different locations in four different states right now. But one topic of conversation on these weekly Zoom sessions is what does it look like going forward? What will the next couple of months look like? What will the rest of the year look like? And what will, obviously, say, the next decade look like in terms of how do we create, how do we write music, how do we record music, how do we share music, and how is it all gonna look with the uncertainties ahead of us.”

He added: “will there be a Metallica quarantine record? I can’t tell you, because, again, I don’t know how long the quarantine will last. But if you and I and the rest of the world are sitting here six months from now or a year from now, I’d say there’s a very good chance.”
